Providence Baseball is proud to announce that Nathan Hickey was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 5th round in Major League Baseball’s 2021 player draft. Hickey played for 6 years for the Stallions under Coach Mac Mackiewitz as shortstop and catcher. He committed to the Florida Gators and this past season, and a sophomore he hit .317/.435/.522. He came into the draft ranked 131st by Baseball America, 141st by MLB Pipeline, and 84th by Perfect Game. In 2021, he increased his walk total for the Gators (42) and more than doubled his strikeout (20) total as well. Nathan will become the 19th professional player in Providence history and the 9th baseball player in top-level professional sports.
